What is an ideal church, and how can you tell? How does it look different from other churches? More importantly, how does it act differently? We should recognize the key characteristics of a healthy church: expositional preaching, biblical theology, a right understanding of the gospel, the point of membership, and the goal to make healthy disciples. We should desire healthy characteristics in our own church. In order to do this, believers must do their part in maintaining the local church. Let’s look at the timeless truths along with practical principles to help each of us fulfill our God-given roles in the body of Christ.

Week One: Preaching and Sound Doctrine

Rich content above charisma. Why preaching the Bible matters. The difference between preaching and motivational talks. Everybody is a theologian…what do you believe about God? Good Biblical theology is critical.

Week Two: Gospel, Conversion & Evangelism

Our sending capacity is driven by our seating capacity. We unashamedly desire to reach people for Jesus. We are Commissioned to GO. We GO with the true Gospel. We desire for people to be converted to Jesus not to man’s creativity. We GO because we love God and love People.

Week Three: Membership + Discipline

Membership matters. An active member is connected to the church through life group, through corporate worship, through serving, and through giving. There should be accountability when a member is in open sin. This is loving not condemning, with the hopes of drawing one back to a right relationship with Jesus and His church.

Week Four: Discipleship + Leadership

There should be accountability when a member is in open sin. This is loving not condemning, with the hopes of drawing one back to a right relationship with Jesus and His church.
