Accords with Sound Doctrine
In this passage, Paul tells Titus to teach both genders and all generations that which is accords with sound doctrine. Paul’s emphasis is that right doctrine leads to right behavior. Paul lays out for Titus how different groups of people in the church should be taught and what sort of behaviors to stress with each. This is all to be done so that we glorify God as a people that He has purchased!
Titus 2
Main Idea: The grace of God compels all in the church to pursue godly living both for themselves and their brothers and sisters in order to glorify God and witness to the beauty of the Gospel that saved us.
I. Godly living or Gospel-Centered Behavior in the Church and Home (v. 1-10)
Five things to consider as we look at the list of behaviors in these 6 groups in the church:
1)The Elders of the Church are to take the lead in teaching the congregation sound doctrine that leads to godliness
2) This teaching is to be Sound Doctrine from the Word and not the culture
3) This is a picture of discipleship in the church
4) The Exhortations listed for each group are not exhaustive
5) We must understand that Grace comes before works or belief comes before behavior
II. The Grace that Compels Godly Living (V. 11-14)
